
Primetrade Asia, Inc. has revealed that they will be screening the Japanese live-action films Gintama and Ajin at The Best of Anime 2019.
Gintama’s first live-action film will be screened on Saturday, August 31, at 11:00am, while Ajin’s live-action film is scheduled for Sunday, September 1, at 11:00am.
The film screenings are in partnership with film distributor Pioneer Films, who had previously released the films in Philippine cinemas and serves as the event’s tie-up organization partner.

Set in the Edo period of a parallel world in which aliens from outer space called Amanto dominate the Earth, the film comically portrays various incidents which occur around Sakata Gintoki, an eccentric samurai who performs odd jobs, and his companions. In the director’s chair is Fukuda Yuichi of the television series “Yusha Yoshihiko”.
Gintoki is a handyman in an Edo town. He receives information a former comrade, Takasugi, is planning to overthrow the shogunate. (Synopsis from JFDB)
Gintama is the first live-action film based on Hideki Soraichi’s popular comedy manga series, which was written and directed by Yuichi Fukuda.
The film starred Shun Oguri as “Sakata Gintoki”, Masaki Suda as “Shinpachi Shimura” and Kanna Hashimoto as “Kagura”, which was released in Philippine cinemas in September 2017 by Pioneer Films.
Ajin

It depicts on a grand scale the conflict between a new breed of immortal humans called “Ajin” and humanity. “Bayside Shakedown” series’ Motohiro Katsuyuki directs.
Kei (Satoh Takeru) becomes a medical intern in order to save his ill sister, Eriko (Hamabe Minami). One day he is killed in an accident, but as an Ajin, he comes back to life immediately afterward. Chased by the government and turned into a guinea pig for inhuman experiments, Kei is confronted by Sato (Ayano Go), an Ajin terrorist who hates humans. (Synopsis from JFDB)
Ajin is a Japanese live-action film based on Gamon Sakurai’s dark fantasy manga series, which was directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro.
The film starred Takeru Satoh, who portrayed “Kenshin Himura” in the live-action film adaptations of Rurouni Kenshin, as the lead character “Kei Nagai”, which was released in Philippine cinemas in March 2018 and distributed by Pioneer Films.
In addition to the film screening, the event will also feature cosplayer guests Chihiro, King and Momo from Taiwan, plus several others.
The event will also feature performances from Japanese fantasy idol group STARMARIE, visual kei group UchuSentai: NOIZ and rock band BACK-ON as its headline act.
The Best of Anime 2019 will happen this August 31 to September 1, 2019 at the SMX Convention Center – Manila, inside the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City.
