Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, also known by its short title “DanMachi”, is the anime adaptation of the Japanese fantasy light novel series, written by Fujino Omori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda, which is being published by SB Creative under their GA Bunko imprint since January 2013 and currently has 15 volumes.

The light novel has received two manga adaptations, a 13-episode anime adaptation in April 2015, an original video animation on December 2016, and a smartphone game released in 2017.

Additionally, the light novel also received two light novel spinoffs, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoria and Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Familia Chronicle.

ANIPLUS Asia described the second season’s story:

The Hestia Familia remains the smallest in Orario with only its head and sole family member — Goddess Hestia and adventurer Bell Cranel. After ranking up at an unprecedented rate, Bell has gained the overwhelming attention of the world. The “Familia Myth” woven by the boy and the goddess will unfold once again.

The second season will now be directed by Hideki Tachibana, who previously worked in Armed Girl’s Machiavellism anime series, replacing Yoshiki Yamakawa.

Other staffs from the first season, including scriptwriter Hideki Shirane, music composer Keiji Inai and character designer Shigeki Kimoto, will return to work on the upcoming season, which will be produced by J.C. Staff.

Yuka Iguchi, who sung the theme song for the first season, will return to sing the opening theme song “HELLO to DREAM”.

The Japanese voice cast from the previous season, including Inori Minase (as Hestia) and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (as Bell Cranell), are expected to return to the upcoming season, with the addition of new cast members:

  • Akeno Watanabe as Aisha Belka
  • Wakana Kowaka as Daphne Lauros
  • Ayumi Mano as Cassandra Illion
  • KENN as Hyakinthos Clio
  • Ryota Ohsaka as Apollo
  • Haruka Chisuga as Sanjono Haruhime

ANIPLUS Asia had aired the first season of DanMachi on a simulcast basis in Spring of 2015. The series also made its free-to-air premiere on terrestrial broadcaster TV5 in May 2017, which was dubbed in Filipino.

The anime channel also aired the anime adaptation of its spinoff, Sword Oratoria: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side, in Spring 2017.

The light novel series also inspired the anime film Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Arrow of the Orion, which was released in Japanese theaters last February. The film was also released in overseas territories, including North America, United Kingdom, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Southeast Asia.

ANIPLUS Asia has released the anime film in Southeast Asia, which was screened in the Manila last May 25.

In addition to DanMachi S2, the anime channel will also simulcast the upcoming anime shows Fire Force, Ensemble Stars! and Arifureta: From commonplace to World’s Strongest.

The channel has recently revealed that the music idol anime Ensemble Stars! will premiere on July 7, while the action adventure anime Arifureta will make its premiere on July 8.
