Hong Kong-based content distributor Medialink Entertainment has announced on Tuesday they have acquired the upcoming anime Oshi no Ko.

The company has yet to reveal the distribution details of the upcoming drama anime series, but it is scheduled to premiere on 12 April 2023.

Oshi no Ko is an upcoming anime adaptation of a drama manga series, written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, which is being published in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine since April 2020 and currently has 10 volumes published.

The company also distributes the popular manga in English digitally through their Manga Plus by Shueisha mobile app.

 

Oshi no Ko’s upcoming anime adaptation will be directed by Daisuke Hiramaki, who worked on anime titles in Naruto Shippuden and WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me, while Laid-Back Camp anime scriptwriter Jin Tanaka will handle the series composition.

Kanna Hirayama, who worked on the romance anime Rent-A-Girlfriend, will handle the upcoming anime’s character design, which will be animated by Doga Kobo.

The popular Japanese music duo YOASOBI will perform the upcoming anime’s opening theme song “Idol”, while the rock band Queen Bee will perform its ending theme song “Mephisto”.

 

The Japanese voice cast will be lead by Rie Takahashi (Takagi-san, Teasing Master Takagi-san) as Ai Hoshino, Takeo Outsuka (Collot, BEASTARS) as “Aquamarine Hoshino” and Yurie Igoma as “Ruby Hoshino”

They will also be joined by Yumi Uchiyama (Yoko Inokuma, Kin-iro Mosaic!) will voice the young “Aquamarine Hoshino” and Kent Itou (Hirotaka Nifuji, Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku) as the obstetrician “Gorou”.

 

Oshi no Ko’s manga series had received several recognitions, including a nomination in the general category of 67th Shogakukan Manga Award in 2021, as well as a nomination in 26th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2022.

The manga is also ranked #5 in “Most Wanted Anime Adaptation” poll in the popular anime and pop-culture event AnimeJapan in 2022.

 

Medialink Entertainment has announced several anime titles that will be part of their lineup for Spring 2023 season, which are Mashle: Magic and Muscles, the Second Seasons of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury and In Another World with My Smartphone, and the Third Season of Dr. STONE.
