Southeast Asian anime channel ANIMAX Asia has announced on Saturday that they will simulcast the Second Season of Cells at Work! this January.

The anime channel also announced the simulcast airing of the Second part of Re: ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2 this Winter 2021 season.

Cells at Work!! is the upcoming second season of the anime series based on the popular manga series by Akane Shimizu, which has been running in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine since January 2015 and currently has five volumes.

The manga series inspired several spinoffs, including Cells at Work: Code Black which is also set to have an anime adaptation this upcoming season, as well as a light novel, stage play and video game adaptations.

The manga’s fifth volume also inspired an anime film adaptation, was screened in Japanese cinemas last September.

The upcoming season will be directed by Hirofumi Ogura, who previously worked in the second season of Black Butler, replacing Kenichi Suzuki.

Aside from the director role, the main staff and casts from the previous season will return to the upcoming season, including scriptwriter Yuuko Kakihara and character designer Takahiko Yoshida, which will be produced by David Production.

ANIMAX Asia aired the first season on a simulcast basis in July 2018, which has eventually been made available through Netflix in Southeast Asia.

MUSE Asia, which licensed the anime series in the Asian region, is screening the anime film Cells at Work!! The Strongest Enemy Returns. An uproar in the body’s intestines! in cinemas in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

 

Cells at Work!! premieres on January 10, airing every Sundays at 08:30pm PHT, within 24 hours after its initial Japanese telecast.

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- is an anime adaptation of a Japanese isekai light novel series by Tappei Nagatsuki, which initially is a self-published web novel since April 2012.

Kadokawa’s Media Factory division picked-up the series and serialized under their MF Bunko J in January 2014, which currently has 25 volumes. Shinichirou Otsuka became the illustrator of the light novel.

The upcoming episodes will be the second part of the popular anime adaptation’s second season. The first part premiered last July to September, which ANIMAX Asia also aired on a simulcast basis.

 

The anime adaptation is directed by Masaharu Watanabe, who previously handled key animation of Air drama anime, while Beelzebub scriptwriter Masahiru Yokotani handles the series composition.

Kyuta Sakai, who previously worked on Higurashi: When They Cry anime series, handling character designs, which is being produced by WHITE FOX.

Mayu Maeshima, who was formerly the vocals of the Japanese band MYTH & ROID, will sing the opening theme song “Long shot”, while anisong singer nonoc will sing the ending theme song “Believe in you”.

The Japanese voice cast are lead by Inori Minase as “Rem”, Rie Murakawa as “Ram”, Rie Takahashi as “Emilia” and Yusuke Kobayashi as “Subaru Natsuki”.

 

The second part of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2 will premiere on January 7, airing every Thursdays at 08:30pm PHT, within 24 hours after its initial Japanese telecast.
