ABS-CBN’s digital terrestrial channel Asianovela Channel has announced on their official Facebook page that they will resume their television broadcast this Monday, June 1.
The announcement comes almost a month after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the Philippine government’s telecommunications regulatory body, has ordered the media conglomerate to shut down its free-to-air television and radio operations due to the expiration of their congressional franchise.
The Asian entertainment channel will temporarily occupy the channel space previously occupied by ABS-CBN Sports+Action, which is one of the analogue television channels covered in the cease-and-desist order by the regulatory body.
Aside from Asianovela Channel, the broadcaster will also bringing back the general entertainment channel Jeepney TV as a temporary replacement to their flagship channel ABS-CBN.
The remaining digital terrestrial television (DTT) service of the network is using the broadcast frequency of AMCARA Broadcasting Corporation under a blocktime agreement, which is not part of the cease-and-desist order.
Asianovela Channel is the Asian entertainment channel of media conglomerate ABS-CBN, launched in July 2018 as an additional exclusive sub-channel for the company’s DTT service ABS-CBN TVplus.
The channel primarily airs Korean dramas, but also aired shows from Taiwan and Japan, including Hana Nochi Hare, the sequel to the popular Hana Yori Dango J-dorama series, which premiered in June last year.
