The day the stars fell, two lives changed forever. High schoolers Mitsuha and Taki are complete strangers living separate lives. But one night, they suddenly switch places. Mitsuha wakes up in Taki’s body, and he in hers. This bizarre occurrence continues to happen randomly, and the two must adjust their lives around each other. Yet, somehow, it works. They build a connection and communicate by leaving notes, messages, and more importantly, an imprint.

When a dazzling comet lights up the night’s sky, it dawns on them. They want something more from this connection—a chance to meet, an opportunity to truly know each other. Tugging at the string of fate, they try to find a way to each other. But distance isn’t the only thing keeping them apart. Is their bond strong enough to face the cruel irony of time? Or is their meeting nothing more than a wish upon the stars? (Synopsis from Funimation Entertainment)

Media conglomerate ABS-CBN initially announced that the popular anime film will air on Filipino-dubbed movie channel TAG in 2017, but the movie channel, together with the Filipino language anime channel HEROtv, ceased broadcast in January 2018.

The anime film had its Filipino-dubbed television premiere on its flagship free-to-air channel in February 2018, which was made available on its video-on-demand service iWant TV (rebranded as iWant) a day later.

The film was also aired on the company’s digital terrestrial channel YeY, which is the sister channel of Asianovela Channel, last August.

The Filipino voice cast was lead by Leslie Paraboles (“Shimura Shinpachi”, Gintama) as “Taki Tachibana”, and Denise Gail Tumibay (“Yuriko Kogami”, Beautiful Bones: Sakurako’s Investigation) as “Mitsuha Miyamizu”.

Makoto Shinkai’s newest anime film project, Tenki no Ko: Weathering with You, is set to premiere in Japanese cinemas this July.
