Test Card for ANIMAX Asia's High-definition broadcasts.

Pan-regional anime channel ANIMAX Asia has announced on their website that the channel is set to broadcast in High-definition (HD) starting Thursday, December 17.

Anime Pilipinas has learned through sources that they have started test broadcast on December 07 on a limited schedule basis, but the HD channel is set to simulcast with its Standard Definition (SD) channel by Thursday.

 

A representative of AXN Networks Philippines, who represents Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) Asia channels in the Philippines, tells Anime Pilipinas that they still have no word on when will the channel be available in the country.

It is also unknown which pay-TV providers in the region that will be carrying the HD channel prior its launch.

ANIMAX Asia will be SPE Asia’s newest channel to broadcast a high-definition, after AXN Asia, the defunct AXN Beyond and BeTV, the Korean entertainment channel ONE TV, and the Asian entertainment channel GEM TV.

SPE Asia has previously launched ANIMAX HD in Taiwan last August, but unlike ANIMAX Asia, the HD channel has a different schedule from ANIMAX Taiwan.

They will also be the second anime channel that is broadcasting in high-definition throughout South East Asia, after its competitor Aniplus HD which was launched in January 2013.
