Rent-A-Girlfriend, also known by its Japanese title “Kanojo, Okarishimasu”, is an anime adaptation of a Japanese romantic comedy manga series by Reiji Miyajima, which has been running in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since July 2017 and currently has 20 volumes.

The anime adaptation is directed by Kazuomi Koga, who previously worked in anime titles such as Just Because! and Zoids Wild, while sweetness & lightning scriptwriter Mitsutaka Hirota handled the series composition.

Kanna Hirayama, who previously worked in the comedy anime Uzamaid!, handled character designs, which is being produced by TMS Entertainment.

MUSE Asia, which handles the anime’s distribution in Southeast Asia, described the anime’s story:

20 year-old loser college student, Kazuya Kinoshita, had his one kiss with his first ever girlfriend, and found himself dumped within just one month.

“Ah… that’s not… Everything’s just going down the hill…”.

Defeatist Kazuya decides to score a date using “that method”. And when meeting his date…

“You are Kazuya, right?”.

With smooth black hair tucked over her ear, beauty Chizuru Mizuhara smiled at Kazuya. From a one-time rental, there comes a shining reality! It’s the start of a Love X Doki MAX love story!

Shun Horie, who voiced “Pierre” in The iDOLM@STER SideM franchise, played the lead character “Kazuya Kinoshita”.

He is also joined by Sora Amamiya (“Aqua”, KONOSUBA – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!) as Chizuru Mizuhara, Aoi Yuki (“Tanya Degurechaff”, Saga of Tanya the Evil) as Mami Nanami, Nao Toyama (“Karen Kujo”, Kin-iro Mosaic!) as Ruka Sarashina and Rie Takahashi (“Emilia”, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) as Sumi Sakurasawa.

MUSE Asia streamed the first season of Rent-A-Girlfriend on a simulcast basis on their partner streaming platforms in Southeast Asia, including the Chinese video streaming service iQIYI, from July to September 2020.

After the airing of final episode in September last year, the anime announced that will get a second season. In an event held last month, the anime has announced that the second season is set to premiere in 2022.
