Southeast Asian anime channel ANIPLUS Asia has announced on Friday that they will simulcast the upcoming anime series The Misfit of Demon King Academy this Summer 2020 season.
The upcoming anime will premiere on July 4, airing every Saturdays at 24:00 PHT (effectively, every Sundays at 12:00am PHT), within two hours after its initial Japanese telecast. Primetime encore telecast on Sundays at 09:00pm PHT.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy is an upcoming anime adaptation of a fantasy light novel series by Shu, which initially a self-published web novel in April 2017.
The novel has been picked up by Kadokawa’s ASCII Media Works and currently being published on their Dengeki Bunko imprint since March 2018, and currently has five volumes. Yoshinori Shizuma, who has illustrated several characters on the popular online game Kantai Collection, joined as the light novel’s illustrator.
Aside from the upcoming anime series, the light novel was also adapted in manga by Square Enix since July 2018, which currently has two volumes published.

The story follows Anos Voldigoad, an overwhelmingly powerful Demon King who reincarnates after an absence of 2000 years, only to discover that the world has grown accustomed to peace and that many of his dark magic skills have decayed. When Anos enrolls at the academy designed to test candidates for the position of Demon King, his powers can’t be properly measured, and he’s labeled ‘inept’. With the help of his only friend and fellow classmate Misha, Anos sets out to surpass his own descendants and reclaim his title.
Masafumi Tamura, who previously worked on Wise Man’s Grandchild anime series, will direct the upcoming series, while Anne-Happy director Shin Oonuma and scriptwriter Jin Tanaka reunite to work as the chief director and series composition, respectively.
Kazuyuki Yamayoshi, who previously worked on Chaos;Child anime series, will adapt Shinuma’s original character designs, which will be produced by SILVER LINK.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy was initially scheduled to premiere in April this year, but was postponed to July due to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
ANIPLUS Asia previously announced the second season of Fire Force as its first simulcast anime title for the Summer 2020 season.
The upcoming season will premiere on July 4, airing every Saturdays at 01:55am PHT, within an hour after its initial Japanese telecast.
