RED by HBO, the Asian movie and entertainment channel of HBO Asia, has announced on Monday that the live-action film adaptation of the Japanese romance manga Perfect World will this week.
The movie will premiere on the channel’s “Stay Home Friday” movie block this Friday, July 5, at 10:00pm PHT.
Architect Ayukawa Itsuki is left paralyzed from the waist down by a sudden accident and is confined to using a wheel chair. Kawana Tsugumi works at an interior design company who one day runs into the senior she had a crush on during high school, Itsuki. Perfect World is the Japanese live-action film adaptation of a romance drama manga series by Rie Aruga, which is being published in Kodansha’s Kiss magazine since March 2014 and currently has nine (9) volumes. The manga is also being released in English through Kodansha Comics.
In addition to the live-action film, the manga series also inspired a live-action television series, which ran from April to June of this year.
Perfect World’s live-action film was directed by Kenji Shibayama, who previously written and directed the 2015 Japanese film Before a Falling Star Fades Away, while screenwriter Keiko Kanome adapted Aruga’s original story
The Japanese girl group E-girls also sung the film’s theme song “Perfect World”.
The film was distributed by Shochiku and LDH Pictures, which premiered in Japanese cinemas in October last year, as well as screenings in Hong Kong last May.
The film stared Takanori Iwata, member of J Soul Brothers III music group, as “Itsuki Ayukawa” and Hana Sugisaki, who portrayed “Oto Edogawa” in the live-action television drama Hana Nochi Hare, as “Tsugumi Kawana”.
They were also joined by Kenta Suga, Sei Ashina and Ayaka Omasa among others.
Perfect World will be one of the films lined-up to screen in this year’s EIGASAI – Japanese Film Festival, which is set to start this Wednesday, July 03.
