Teaser for Makoto Shinkai’s new anime film “Weathering with You” released

Teaser for the upcoming film also features theme song by RADWIMPS.

The teaser for Tenki no Ko: Weathering with You (Weather Child: Weathering with You), which is the latest anime film by Makoto Shinkai, known for creating the highly-popular anime film your name., was released on Wednesday through the upcoming film’s website.

The teaser also features a preview of the upcoming film’s theme song “Ai ni Dekiru Koto wa Mada Aru Kai” by RADWIMPS, the same band that performed the soundtracks for your name.

Tenki no Ko: Weathering with You is set to premiere in Japanese cinemas on July 19, with worldwide release plans confirmed by Shinkai.

High school student Hodaka leaves his home on an isolated island and moves to Tokyo, but he immediately becomes broke. Shinkai is credited as the creator, director and screenwriter of Weathering with You, while Masayoshi Tanaka, who also worked in the highly-popular anime film, will be in charge of character designs.

Atsushi Tamura, who worked in Studio Ghibli’s award-winning anime film Spirited Away, will be the animation director, and The Garden of Words art director Hiroshi Takiguchi will be in charge of the upcoming film’s art direction, which will be produced by CoMix Wave Films.

 

Shinkai’s your name., also known by its Japanese title Kimi no Na wa (君の名は。 ), earned more than JP¥25 billion (about PHP11.7 billion) in Japanese cinemas when the film premiered in August 2016, making it the country’s fourth highest-grossing film of all time, as well as the second highest-grossing Japanese film and anime film.

The highly-popular anime film also grossed about US$355 million (about PHP18.4 billion) in the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing anime film worldwide.

 

Local film distributor Pioneer Films distributed Shinkai’s your name. to Philippine cinemas in December 2016, which was screened for about two weeks before the start of the Metro Manila Film Festival the same year.

Media conglomerate ABS-CBN acquired its television broadcast rights, which was aired for the first time in Filipino dubbing in February last year. The popular anime film has since been re-aired on its sister channel YeY last August.
