SCANDAL is a popular Japanese all-female rock band formed in 2006, which consist of band members Haruna Ono on vocals & rhythm guitar, Mami Sazaki on guitar & vocals, Tomomi Ogawa on bass guitar & vocals, and Rina Suzuki on drums & vocals.
The four members, who were high school students, first met in August of the same year in a vocal and dance school.
They eventually started doing live appearances at Shiroten, which is an open-air performance venue at the Osaka Castle Park, as well as local clubs in Kansai prefecture.
SCANDAL released three indie singles in 2008, which were released exclusively by record store Tower Records. First single “Space Ranger” had ranked #2 in Tower’s indie chart, while their following singles “Koymoyou” and “Kagerou” ranked #1 in the same chart.
They were eventually signed by Epic Records Japan the same year, which gave them more exposure in the industry, and released their debut single “Doll”.
BEST★SCANDAL, the group’s first studio album, debut at Number 5 on the Oricon weekly album charts in 2009, making them the first girl band since Zone to have a debut album chart at Top 5.
They had since released eight studio albums and 22 more singles, including “Shoujo S” and “Harukaze” for Bleach and “Shunkan Sentimental” for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Since their formation, the band has performed around the world, including United States, France, Hong Kong and Singapore, and has gained a huge international fan base.
In 2012, the song “Satisfaction” was used as the promotional song for the Windows 8television advertisement, becoming the first Japanese artist to be chosen by Microsoft to promote the operating system.
Aside from the Philippines, SCANDAL will also perform in Hong Kong in June 10, Beijing in June 15, Guangzhou in June 17, and Taipei in June 30.
