Southeast Asian anime channel ANIPLUS Asia has announced on Thursday that the upcoming anime series CARDFIGHT!! VANGUARD overDress will air on a simulcast basis this Spring 2021.
The upcoming anime will premiere on April 3, which airs every Saturdays at 06:00pm PHT, same day as Japan. Encore telecast every Sundays at 05:00pm PHT.
CARDFIGHT!! VANGUARD overDress will be the 15th television anime series of the popular trading card game, which is started by Japanese entertainment company Bushiroad in 2011.
The upcoming anime series will feature a new story, which will be a collaboration between the all-female artist group CLAMP and the animation studio Kinema Citrus, which will handle the anime’s original character designs and animation production, respectively.
ANIPLUS Asia described the upcoming anime’s story:
Third-year middle school student Yu-yu Kondo lives in Kanazawa city of the country of Kaga.
Yu-yu has the ability to read the heart of others and is troubled by the fact that he is unable to reject requests. Often getting caught up in his sister’s hobbies, Yu-yu could no longer take it and runs away from home. He is saved by Megumi Okura, who then invites him to a night amusement park called “Wonder Hill”, where her friends gather.
At the amusement park, Yu-yu meets Megumi, along with Zakusa Ishigame and Tomari Seto—members of “Team Blackout” who gather to play Vanguard every night.
Tonight, a serious fight with their team flag on the line will be held. Blackout’s Leader, Danji Momoyama, will fight against the mysterious powerhouse fighter, Tohya Ebata. The cardfight gradually transforms into a scene on Planet Cray before Yu-yu’s eyes.
This is how Yu-yu encounters Vanguard, and is drawn in by the appeal of the world and friends he has never seen before.
CARDFIGHT!! VANGUARD overDress will be directed by Ken Mori, who previously worked on key animation for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and animation director for The Rising of The Shield Hero.
Hiroyuki Saita, who previously worked on Revue Starlight anime series, will adapt CLAMP’s original character designs. Bushiroad artist Akira Kito is credited for the upcoming anime’s story, while company founder Takaaki Kidani is credited as its executive producer.
Roselia, an all-female band from Bushiroad’s multimedia franchise BanG! Dream, will perform the opening theme song “ZEAL of proud”, while its all-male counterpart Argonavis will perform the ending theme song “Y”.
The upcoming anime’s voice cast include:

- Yuma Uchida as “Tohya Ebata”
- Masahiro Ito as “Zakusa Ishikame”
- Hikaru Tohno as “Tomari Seto”
- Shuta Morishima as “Masanori Iseki”
CARDFIGHT!! VANGUARD overDress will be ANIPLUS Asia’s first simulcast anime title for the Spring 2021 season, and more titles are expected to be announced in the coming days.
The anime channel also revealed to Anime Pilipinas that the simulcast airing of the mecha anime Back Arrow will continue in the upcoming season.
ANIPLUS Asia is available in the Philippines on SKYcable Channel 139 (Metro Manila, CAMANAVA, Rizal, Bulacan and Laguna), Cignal TV Channel 75 and GSAT Channel 47.
