Saga of Tanya the Evil is an anime series based on the Japanese novel series by Carlos Zen, which started as a web novel on the user-generated website Arcadia that ran from 2012 to 2013.
The novel has been picked-up as a light novel by Kadokawa’s Enterbrain publishing division in October 2013, which currently has 12 volumes. Shinobu Shinotsuki joined the light novel team as its illustrator.
The anime adaptation is directed by Yutaka Uemura, who previously worked on the sci-fi adventure anime Punch Line, while Ajin scriptwriter Kenta Ihara handled the series composition.
Yuji Hosogoe, who worked as animation director on the popular anime series Psycho-Pass, adapted Shinotsuki’s original character designs, which was produced by anime studio NUT.
Aoi Yuki, who voiced “Tsuyu Asui” in the popular anime series My Hero Academia, portrayed the titular character “Tanya Degurechaff”.
Saga of Tanya the Evil was first aired on Japanese television from January to April 2017, which has an anime film sequel that was screened in Japanese cinemas on February 2019.
