Philippine film distributor Pioneer Films has announced on Tuesday that they plan to release the anime film Her Blue Sky in Philippine cinemas.
The company has not announced the anime film’s target screening date, but it is expected to be released nationwide this year.
The story follows two Aioi sisters, Akane and Aoi, who have lived together since their parents’ passing 13 years ago. One day, older sister Akane’s ex-boyfriend Shinnosuke Kanemuro, who is 31 now, visits the city to perform at a festival. At the same time, 18-year-old Shinnosuke, called Shinno, also time-travels from 13 years ago. While Aoi starts falling love with the 18-year-old Shinno, Akane and the 31-year-old Shinnosuke finally reunite… (Synopsis from MyAnimeList)
Her Blue Sky is an original anime film produced by anime studio CloverWorks, which was the third anime film set in Chichibu, Saitama after Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and The Anthem of the Heart.
The anime film was directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai, written by Mari Okada and character designs by Masayoshi Tanaka, who both previously worked in Toradora and the two previous CloverWorks films.
Shion Wakayama, who voiced “Hinata Mukai” in Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, will portray lead character “Aoi Aioi”, while Riho Yoshioka will portray “Akane Aioi” and Ryo Yoshizawa will portray “Shinnosuke Kanomura” in their voice acting debut.
Her Blue Sky had sold 126,000 tickets in its opening weekend in Japanese cinemas last October, earning a total of JP¥166 million (about PHP77.4 million) and ranked at #4 in the Japanese box office.
During that time, the powerful Typhoon Hagibis had hit mainland Japan and became the strongest typhoon that hit the island in six decades, which caused fatalities and damages to properties, as well as closing of transportation and establishments.
