Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story is an upcoming anime adaptation based on a Japanese role-playing video game developed by f4samurai for smartphone devices, which serves as a spinoff to the popular dark fantasy anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

The smartphone game was introduced in Japan on August 2017, while an English version was introduced in North America last July.

The game has inspired a manga series by Fujino Fuji, which is being published in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Forward magazine since August 2018, as well as a stage play adaptation.

North American anime distributor Aniplex of America described the upcoming series:

In exchange for the fulfillment of a wish, Magical Girls keep fighting, unbeknownst to the rest of the world. But Iroha Tamaki can’t seem to remember her wish.

“When I became a Magical Girl, what did I wish for again?”

There is a gaping hole in her life. Something important has been lost. But she continues to fight every day, without even knowing why… Then, a rumor begins to spread among Magical Girls.

“Magical Girls can be saved if they go to Kamihama.”

Kamihama City, the city where Magical Girls and Uwasa are gathering.
The story of Iroha Tamaki, in search of her lost wish, begins…

Magia Record will be written and directed by Gekidan Inu Curry, who worked on Puella Magi Madoka Magica’s illustrations, who will be reunited with character designer Junichiro Taniguchi, which will be produced by anime studio SHAFT.

Takumi Ozawa, who previously worked on Aria the Scarlet Ammo, will handle the music composition with TrySail and ClariS performing the opening and ending theme song, respectively.

Momo Asakura, who portrayed “Mikan Irako” in the anime series High School Fleet, will play the upcoming show’s lead character “Iroha Tamaki”.

She will be joined by Sora Amamiya as “Yachiyo Nanami”, Kana Hanazawa as “Kuroe” and Emiri Kato as “Small Kyubey”.
