Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is an anime adaptation of a Japanese manga series, written by Ukyo Kodachi and illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto, which serves as a spinoff and a sequel to the highly-popular Naruto franchise by Masashi Kishimoto.

The manga series has been published by Shueisha, currently in V Jump magazine, since May 2016 and currently has nine volumes.

An English version of the manga is also being published on a simulpub basis through digital manga services like Viz Media’s Shonen Jump and Shueisha’s Manga Plus.

The Japanese publisher has described the manga series:

Years have passed since Naruto and Sasuke teamed up to defeat Kaguya, the progenitor of chakra and the greatest threat the ninja world has ever faced. Times are now peaceful and the new generation of shinobi has not experienced the same hardships as its parents. Perhaps that is why Boruto would rather play video games than train. However, one passion does burn deep in this ninja boy’s heart, and that is the desire to defeat his father!

Noriyuki Abe, who directed several popular anime shows like Great Teacher Onizuka and Bleach, served as the chief director of the anime series, while Assassination Classroom scriptwriter Makoto Uezu handled the series composition.

Hirofumi Suzuki and Tetsuya Nishio, who both worked on the several Naruto television and film anime adaptations, returned to work on the spinoff series, which is being produced by Pierrot.

Japanese entertainment content provider Crunchyroll has been streaming Boruto within an hour after the Japanese telecast, with multiple subtitle languages, since the television series started in April 2017.

Naruto was first aired in the Philippines through terrestrial broadcaster ABS-CBN in March 2004, making it one of the first countries outside Japan to air the popular franchise, while the Naruto Shippuden anime series was first aired on the channel in January 2008.

The two television series were aired on the free-to-air channel, as well as its defunct anime channel HEROtv and digital terrestrial channel YeY, usually on a 50 episode-per-season count.

The channels had also aired several anime film adaptations of the popular franchise.

YeY can be seen on digital terrestrial TV exclusively through ABS-CBN TVplus set-top boxes, as well as SKYcable Channel 01 (Metro Manila, CAMANAVA / Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna) and SKYdirect Channel 03.
