Theater chain SM Cinema has revealed on Wednesday additional details on the films that will be shown on the upcoming Philippine leg of The ODEX Film Festival (TOFF).
The theater chain’s official website has listed the live-action film Gintama 2: Rules Are Made To Be Broken to premiere on Friday, November 23, at Cinema 11 of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. Tickets are priced at PHP1,200 each.
Meanwhile, the anime films Natsume’s Book of Friends The Movie: Tied to the Temporal World and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation are set to premiere on Saturday, November 24 at Cinema 11 of SM Megamall.
Natsume’s Book of Friends The Movie: Tied to the Temporal World is scheduled to screen at 02:00pm, with a ticket price of PHP1,200 each.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation is scheduled to screen at 07:00pm, with a ticket price of PHP1,000 each.
Neither the theater chain nor Singapore-based anime licensor ODEX has yet to announce if there are plans to have additional screenings of the films, but it’s possible that freebies will be given to ticket holders during the premiere.
There’s no word if previously announced ANEMONE Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution will still be included in the upcoming film screenings.
Gintama 2: Rules Are Made To Be Broken

Gintama 2: Rules are Meant to be Broken is the second live-action film based on the popular comedy manga series by Hideaki Sorachi, which has been running in since December 2003 and currently has 75 volumes.
The live-action film was written and directed by Yuichi Fukuda, who previously worked in the two Hentai Kamen movies, which was produced by Plus D and distributed by Warner Bros. (Japan).
The previous cast returns to the second movie, including Shun Oguri (“Lupin III”, Lupin the Third live-action film) as “Gintoki Sakata”, Masaki Suda (“Yuki Shien”, Death Note: Light Up The New World) as “Shinpachi Shimura”, and Kanna Hashimoto (“Ritsu”, Assassination Classroom live-action film) as “Kagura”.
The film was released in Japanese cinemas last August 17, and the Southeast Asian licensor announced its acquisition last September.
Natsume’s Book of Friends the Movie: Tied to the Temporal World

Natsume’s Book of Friends the Movie: Tied to the Temporal World (Natsume Yujin-Cho: Utsusemi ni Musubu) is an anime film adaptation of the popular supernatural manga series by Yuki Midorikawa, who also created the popular one-shot manga Hotarubi no Mori e.
The manga is being published by Hakuensha since 2002, which being seen on LaLa DX magazine, and currently has 23 volumes.
Takahiro Omori, together with Hideki Ito, directed the movie, while scriptwriter Sadayuki Hirai returned to work on the upcoming film. Shuka, the animation studio that produced the fifth and sixth seasons of the series, produced the movie.
Hiroshi Kamiya, who voiced the lead character “Takashi Natsume”, and Kazuhiko Inoue, who voiced the character “Nyanko-sensei”, returned to portray their previous roles together with several others.
The film was released in Japanese cinemas on last September 29, and the licensor announced in May that they target to release the film in late 2018.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation
魔法少女リリカルなのは Detonation
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation is the fourth anime movie of the popular magical girl franchise, which started in 2004 as a 13-episode anime series.
The upcoming anime film will directed by Takayuki Hamana, who also worked on the popular sports anime The Prince of Tennis, while Tsuzuki handles the scripts.
Character designs will made by Kana Hashidate, who previously worked on anime shows like Mushibugyo and Dog Days, which will be produced by Seven Arcs.
The movie premiered in Japanese cinemas on October 19, and the licensor announced the acquisition in February.
The ODEX Film Festival, also known by its acronyms TOFF, is film screening event featuring Japanese film content from the Singapore-based licensor’s library.
TOFF was first held in Singapore on February 2017, which featured anime films Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions, Kizumonogatari – Part 3, One Piece Film Gold, The Moment You Fall in Love (Suki ni Naru Sono Shunkan o: Kokuhaku Jikko Iinkai), and Genocidal Organ.
The Second TOFF was held in Malaysia in August 2017, which featured anime films Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale, One Piece Film Gold, Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter, Kuroko Basketball: The Last Game, Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry, Irregular at Magical High School,and live-action films JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable and Mumon: Shinobi no Kuni.
The third TOFF was held once again in Singapore on October 2017, which featured anime movies No Game No Life Zero, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflections, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya: Oath Under Snow, Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution (movie 1), and the live-action movie Mumon: Shinobi no Kuni.
The fourth TOFF was held last May, which featured anime movies including Detective Conan: ZERO the Enforcer, Crayon Shin-chan the Movie – Ramen Chaos, Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple, and SERVAMP the Movie – Alice in the Garden. The event also expanded to cosplay competitions, merchandise sales, and fun runs.
After the Philippine screenings, the sixth TOFF is scheduled to happen in Singapore this November 30 to December 2.
