Independent movie distributor Pioneer Films has announced on their Facebook page on Thursday they have acquired the rights for the live-action film adaptation of Your Lie in April.
The film distributor also announced that the movie is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, December 7, but it is not yet known if it will be screened in most cinema outlets in the country.
The distributor advises moviegoers to contact their local theater chains to check if the movie will be screened on their cinemas.
Kosei Arima won numerous piano competitions while under the strict watch of his mother. He was known as the human metronome during that time. Since the death of his mother, Kosei Arima has been unable to hear the sound of his piano. Kosei Arima then meets Kaori Miyazono through childhood friend Tsubaki Sawabe. Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) is a theatrical film based on the highly-popular manga series by Naoshi Arakawa, which was published by Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine from April 2011 to February 2015 and has a total of 11 volumes.
The manga also has an anime adaptation, which was aired in the Philippines on Filipino-language anime channel HEROtv last April.
The film is directed by Takehiko Shinjo, who also directed the 2011 movie adaptation of Paradise Kiss, while screenplay was made by Yukari Tatsui.
The movie premiered in Japanese cinemas last September 10, which was in third place on its opening weekend. It earned ¥244,602,900 (about PHP114 million) in gross with 200,036 tickets sold.
The lead cast of the movie are Kento Yamazaki (“Kyouya Sata”, Wolf Girl and Black Prince live-action movie) as Kosei Arima and Suzu Hirose (“Chihaya Ayase”, Chihayafuru live-action movies) as “Kaori Miyazono”.
Philippine theater chain SM Cinema has commissioned an online survey in October to gauge the interest of Japanese anime fans and moviegoers regarding the movie.
Pioneer Films previously announced that they have also acquired the highly-popular anime film your name. (Kimi no Na wa.), also set for a December release but no word on the movie’s premiere date.
