Filipino-language anime channel HERO has announced through their Facebook page on Monday that they will hold the fifth installment of their highly-popular event Hero Face Off 2015 this June.
But just a few hours after ABS-CBN 360, the parent network’s sales and marketing portal, created the event page on Facebook, which was shared by HERO itself, it disappeared online.
The cosplay-centric event, which for the first time since 2012 is going to be an independent event, is set to be held at SM Mall of Asia’s Music Hall on Saturday, June 6, from 10:00am to 06:00pm
No other details were revealed, except for the post “Are you ready for Hero Face Off 2015?”
HERO Face Off: The Ultimate Cosplay Battle has been the channel’s flagship event ever since the channel was launched ten years ago. HERO’s first event was called “Hataw Hanep HERO” and it was been held from 2005 to 2008 in venues such as the Philippine Trade Training Center, World Trade Center Metro Manila, SMX Convention Center and Silver City Mall respectively.
The anime channel rebooted their event in 2009, and renamed it as “HERO Nation: The Ultimate Anime Gathering”, which was held at the former A.Venue Events Place in Makati Avenue after their planned venue, the SM City Marikina Carpark, was damaged during the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ondoy.
In 2010, HERO launched a new event, called “HERO Face Off”, where different cosplayers competed for the right to represent the country, first in the Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention (STGCC), then later in the World Cosplay Summit (WCS), when the Philippines snagged the right to hold the preliminaries for the said global cosplay tilt and participate as an “observer nation”.
The event, in recent years, has been held in conjunction with different major events like Toycon in 2013, and recently, with The Best of Anime in 2014, in which the winners were given the chance to witness Anime Festival Asia 2014 last December in Singapore.
