JM Melegrito

Editor-at-Large
Anime Pilipinas

JM Melegrito is the Editor-at-Large of Anime Pilipinas, who oversees the entire editorial direction of the website, including news operations, opinion review, and partnerships with different stakeholders.

He also serves as the Head Writer of the news organization.

JM was one of the members of ZEN Otaku Honbu message boards in 2008, and became one of its Junior Moderators, under the guidance of founder Marlo Magtibay, a couple of months later.

He was one of the people who steered the direction of the group from an online message board into a news website, which first started on the defunct social networking site Multiply in 2009 and eventually launching zenhonbuph.net a year later.

He took over the operations of the organization and relaunched the site under a new name, Anime Pilipinas, in 2014.

JM’s first exposure in Japanese Anime was the fantasy comedy anime Juuni Senshi Bakuretsu Eto Ranger, which was aired on terrestrial network ABC-5 in the Late 90’s.

The Late 90’s was also the Golden Age of Anime on Free TV, which is why he was eventually been exposed to anime shows like Zenki, Mojacko!, Hell Teacher Nube, BT’x, Yu Yu Hakusho, and several others.

Although he watches anime shows from any genre, JM prefers to watch slice-of-life shows, like Kin-iro Mosaic, New Game!, and Sweetness and Lightning.

His favorite anime show of all time is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, because of the story, character development and how everything fits together. Just don’t make him watch Episode 4 again.

JM has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications at Far Eastern University in Manila.
