Haikyuu!! premieres on ABS-CBN this April

Volleyball-themed anime also set to air on sister channel HERO this year.

Terrestrial network ABS-CBN is leading the summer anime programming as they have announced the premiere of the popular volleyball-themed anime series Haikyuu!!

The channel announced that the anime will premiere on Monday, April 06, at 09:20am, together with the premiere of Naruto Shippuden’s seventh season at 09:40am.

 

Shoyo Hinata began playing volleyball after seeing the “small giants” who played the sport when he was in elementary school. He suffers a crushing defeat in his first and last tournament in middle school at the hands of his rival Tobio Kageyama. So, Hinata joins Kurasuno High School’s volleyball team, vowing revenge against Kageyama. However, Kageyama is also on Kurasuno’s team. The former rivals form a legendary combo with Hinata’s mobility and Kageyama’s precision ball-handling. Together, they take on the local tournaments and vow to meet Kurasuno’s fated rival school in the nationals. (Synopsis from Anime News Network)

Haikyuu!! is an anime adaptation of a Japanese shounen manga series, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate, which is being serialized by Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since February 2012. The manga currently has 15 volumes.

The anime adaptation is directed by Susumu Mitsunaka, who also worked on two seasons of Big Windup!, while Silver Spoon scriptwriter Taku Kishimoto handled both writing and arrangements of the scripts, and character designs was made by Takahiro Kishida. The series was produced by Production I.G., which has 25 episodes.

 

Haikyuu!! was previously announced as one of the anime titles set to premiere on the Filipino-language anime channel HERO, which is also ABS-CBN’s sister channel under the Creative Programs Inc. (CPI) brand.

It is still unknown when will the popular sports anime premiere on the anime channel.
