Hong Kong-based content distributor Medialink Entertainment has announced on Saturday they acquired Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!
The upcoming anime is scheduled to premiere on 06 April, which will stream every Thursdays at 12:00am, just an hour after its initial Japanese telecast.
The anime be streamed on Ani-One Asia Ultra, the membership feature on Ani-One Asia’s YouTube channel, as well as their streaming platform partners in the region.
Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! is an anime adaptation of a light novel series, written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima, which was published by Kadokawa Shoten and ran from July 2014 to June 2015 with a total of three volumes.
The series also released a “Bonus Story” with two additional volumes released between December 2016 to March 2019.
The series also serves as a spinoff of the popular fantasy comedy light novel KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! that ran from October 2013 to May 2020, that spawned several manga, anime and video game adaptations.
Medialink Entertainment described the upcoming anime’s story:
A year before Satou Kazuma was taken to a new world, there was the tale of Megumin, the strongest explosion magician in all the lands! Megumin was studying at the Red Prison Academy and earning her chops as a young magician wanting to learn about explosion magic! However, at the magic academy, she is ridiculed and mocked for wanting to learn explosion magic due to its immense mana cost and impracticality, but that won’t stop Megumin from chasing after her dream of the biggest explosion!
Staff members from previous Konosuba anime adaptations, including scriptwriter Makoto Uezu, chief animation director Koichi Kikuta and music composer Masato Koda, returns to work on the anime spinoff.
Yujiro Abe, who worked on several episodes of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, will direct the upcoming anime. Drive, Inc. will take over the animation production.
Rie Takahashi, who voiced “Megumin” in the previous Konosuba anime adaptations, will be the lead character of the anime spinoff. She is joined by Aki Toyosaki (as Yunyun) and Hitomi Nabatame (as Chomusuke).
Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! will be an addition to previously announced anime titles acquired by Medialink Entertainment for the Spring 2023 season.
This includes the upcoming fantasy comedy anime Mashle: Magic and Muscles, the Second Seasons of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury and In Another World with My Smartphone, the Third Season of Dr. STONE, the upcoming drama anime Oshi no Ko, the upcoming romantic comedy anime A Galaxy Next Door, the Second Season of Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ Story, the upcoming mecha anime Alice Gear Aegis Expansion, and the upcoming suspense anime My Home Hero.
