Southeast Asian anime channel ANIPLUS Asia has announced on Tuesday that the anime film Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl will make its television premiere this June.
The anime channel has revealed in a television advertisement that the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai’s anime film sequel will premiere on Sunday, June 27, at 05:30pm PHT.
The anime film will be part of the channel’s “June Bride” special, which feature a marathon airing of several romance anime titles from ANIPLUS Asia’s programming lineup every weekend, including DARLING in the FRANXX, Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You and the first season of Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl is a Japanese anime film based on the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai light novel series, written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi, which is being published by Kadokawa’s ASCII Media Works since April 2014 and currently has 11 volumes.
The anime film adapted the sixth and seventh volumes of the light novel series and serves as the sequel to the 13-episode television anime series, which was aired during the Autumn 2018 season.

ANIPLUS Asia described the anime film’s story:
Sakuta Azusagawa is enjoying his exciting love-filled life with his upperclassman and girlfriend, Mai Sakurajima, when things take a turn at appearance of his first love, Shoko Makinohara.
For some reason, “two versions” of Shoko exists—a middle school student and an adult.
Sakuta somehow ends up living with Shoko, which causes a rift in his relationship with Mai.
Meanwhile, Sakuta learns that “middle school Shoko” is diagnosed with a serious illness and his scar starts to hurt again.
The staff from the television series, including director Soichi Masui, scriptwriter Masahiro Yokotani and character designer Saotomi Tamura, returned to work on the anime film.
The voice casts from the television series, including Kaito Ishikawa (as Sakuta Azusagawa), Asami Seto (as Mai Sakurajima) and Inori Minase (as Shoko Makinohara), also returned to voice their respective roles in the film.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl opened in Japanese cinemas in June 2019, which debut at #7 in the Japanese box office during its opening weekend, and earned a cumulative total of ¥373,520,090 (PHP164.8 Million).
ANIPLUS Asia announced that they acquired the distribution rights for the anime film in July 2019, which was then screened in Singapore and Malaysia the following month.
In the Philippines, the anime film was released in November the same year, with Pioneer Films serving as its local distributor.
