Granblue Fantasy: The Animation Season 2 will be the second anime adaptation of the popular role-playing mobile game by game developer Cygames, which started in Japan on March 2014 and expanded worldwide two years later.
The upcoming season will now feature a brand new staff, which will now be produced by the anime studio MAPPA, instead of the previous season’s producer A-1 Pictures.
Yui Umemoto , who worked in several Cardfight!! Vanguard anime adaptations, will be the new director of the series, while The Legend of the Legendary Heroes scriptwriter Kiyoko Yoshimura will now be in-charge of the series composition.
Fumihide Sai, who previously handled character designs for Shugo Chara! and chief animation director of several episodes of Zombieland Saga, will now handle the character designs. Tsutomu Narita and Yasunori Nishiki will return to handle the upcoming season’s music.
The Japanese voice cast from the previous season, including Yuuki Ono as “Gran” and Nao Toyama as “Lyria”, will return to voice their respective roles in the upcoming season.
Keiji Fujiwara, who voiced “Eugen” on the mobile game, will reprise his role in the upcoming season. He was replaced by Kazuhiro Yamaji in the first season due to his medical leave.
ANIPLUS Asia aired the first season of Granblue Fantasy: The Animation on a simulcast basis in Spring of 2017.
The channel also aired the television special, which featured the first two episodes of the show, in January of the same year.
