RED by HBO, the Asian movie and entertainment channel of HBO Asia, has announced that two Japanese live-action films, The House Where The Mermaid Sleeps and Lock-On Love, will premiere this month.
The mystery drama film The House Where The Mermaid Sleeps will premiere this Friday, September 6, while the romantic comedy film Lock-On Love is scheduled on September 20.
The two movies will premiere on the channel’s “Stay Home Friday” movie block, which airs every Fridays at 10:00pm PHT.

Kazumasa and Kaoruko are in a troubled marriage and have agreed to divorce once their daughter’s elementary school entrance exams are over. However, just before they are to rehearse for the family oral interview, they are informed of their daughter drowning in a pool. Rushing to the hospital, Kazumasa and Kaoruko are met with a heartbreaking situation. (Synopsis from JFDB)
The House Where The Mermaid Sleeps is a Japanese live-action film based on a novel by Keigo Higashino, which was written in commemoration of the 30th year of his career in 2015. Higashino also written other mystery literary works like the “Doctor Galileo” series and “Into the White Knight”.
The feature film was directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi, who also directed the SPEC film series and Virtual Detective Tabito Higurashi live-sction series, while Tomorrow’s Joe live-action film adaptation screenwriter Eriko Shinozaki wrote the film’s scripts. The film was produced by Shochiku and released in November 2018.
The film starred Ryoko Shinohara as “Kaoruko Harima”, and Hidetoshi Nishijima as her husband “Kazuaki Harima”.
The House Where The Mermaid Sleeps was the closing film in this year’s Eigasai – Japanese Film Festival.
The popular film festival, which is being held annually in commemoration of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month, ran this year from July 3 to August 25.
Lock-On Love

Lock-On Love is a Japanese live-action film adaptation of a romantic comedy manga series by Nana Shiiba, which was published in Shueisha’s Margaret magazine in 2014.
The live-action film was directed by Noburu Iguchi, who previously written and directed the 2008 film “The Machine Girl”, which was produced by Dream Plus and distributed by Toei.
The film starred Taishi Nakagawa (“Tenma Hase”, Hana Nochi Hare) as “Towa Furuya”, and Erika Karata (“Marin Aota”, Kiss that Kills) as “Misono Miwa”.
