Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was awarded Best Animated Feature Film in the 91st Academy Awards on Sunday (Monday in the Philippines), which was held at the at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
The Japanese anime film Mirai, produced by Studio Chizu, was also nominated in this year’s Oscars. The anime film was written and directed by Mamoru Hosoda.
Other nominees in the Best Animated Feature Film category are Incredibles 2 (Walt Disney/Pixar), Isle of Dogs (Studio Babelsberg/Indian Paintbrush/American Empirical Pictures), and Ralph Breaks the Internet (Walt Disney Animation).
The Japanese film Shoplifters, written and directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, was also nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category, but was bested by Alfonso Cuarón’s Spanish-language film Roma.
The Japanese film had previously won Cannes Film Festival’s highest honor, the Palme d’Or, last year.
