Southeast Asian anime channel ANIMAX Asia has announced in a television advertisement on Wednesday that the latest anime adaptation of the sci-fi series The Legend of the Galactic Heroes will premiere this Monday.

The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These will premiere on November 20, airing double episodes Every Monday and Tuesday nights at 08:00pm (07:00pm JKT/BKK), with an encore telecast at 11:00pm (10:00pm JKT/BKK).

In the distant future, mankind has started living in space. The space colonies are split into two main opposing government organizations, the autocratic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Galaxy Alliance. With both sides locked in endless battles, the increasing internal strife, shifts in political ideals and the rise of two geniuses will influence the outcome of the century-long war. (Synopsis from ANIMAX Asia)

The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These is the sixth anime adaptation based on the sci-fi novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka, which was published by Tokuma Shoten and ran from November 1982 to 1987 with a total of 10 volumes. This was also the novel’s first television anime adaptation.

Kuroko’s Basketball director Shunsuke Tada and scriptwriter Noboru Takagi reunited to work on the sci-fi anime series, while the team of Iwao Teraoka, Katsura Tsushima and Yoko Kikuchi handled character designs, which was produced by Production I.G.

The Japanese voice cast are lead by Mamoru Miyano (“Osamu Dazai”, Bungo Stray Dogs) as “Reinhard von Lohengramm” and Kenichi Suzumura (“Masato Hijirikawa”, Uta no Prince-sama series) as “Yang Wen-li”.

The television series is set to be followed up with a movie adaptation, which is set to be released in 2019.

 

The premiere of the anime series was previously announced last September during Cosplay Mania ’18, together with the third and final season of Fairy Tail.
