The Japanese pop-culture scene in the Philippines is thriving with each and every year, but whenever the summer season arrives, there is only one event that comes to mind: Ozine Fest.
The booths which offer different goodies, The activities that event goers enjoy, The special surprises like cosplay and musical guest, and the most important of all, Otakus minging with fellow otakus and having a good time.
Sure, let’s not deny that people may have divided opinions about the event, whether positive or negative, but one thing is for sure, the summer is not complete without an Ozine Fest happening. This time with some nostalgia twist.
This is a short digest of the things to expect on their 13th edition of the popular event, This is The Pre-Show: Ozine Fest 2017.
First, let’s talk about the venue. Unlike last year, Ozine Fest returns to the Megatrade Halls at SM Megamall this year, which was their home the previous years.
Everyone should expect that the crowd will grow large inside and outside the event halls, which is why people should take precaution of their belongings.
As most people already know, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City is a “centerpoint” from the people in the North and South, because of the ease of travel. You can reach the venue through public transportation by using the MRT-3 light rail system or taking the bus.
With regards to the activities inside the event halls, you can find a lot of things to buy with the merchandise booths to fill your otaku den.
You can find booths that sell toys, button pins, even useful items with a touch of anime in it. There are also original items for sale, those hardcore otakus that want nothing but the best, and event manga and comics to include in your collection.
See the doujins and artworks of your favorite characters from local artists, because there will also be an artist booth at the event.
In case you get hungry, there are also easy-to-go foods that you can eat while watching all the activities event happenings. The Maid Cafe also returns to serve you some sweets and treats that you may like.
Speaking of activities, Ozine Fest will bring you all the activities that each attendees enjoyed, like the Battle of the Bands, Acoustic band contest, Art contests, Anime singing contest and the much-awaited Cosplay competition, with prizes in store.
There are also parlor games that everyone loved to join in, including the Trivias, Eating contests and more.

Lastly, Ozine Fest 2017 partners with TokuSpirits this year to bring nostalgia feels on one night, as Japanese artists Takayuki Miyauchi and Mitsuko Horie comes to the country for the first time!
Takayuki Miyauchi is well known for theme songs in Japanese tokusatsu and anime series with his career spanning for more than three decades, singing the opening song of the classic sentai series Bioman, “Choudenshi Bioman”.
He also sang the theme for Kamen Rider Black RX, Juken Sentai Gekiranger, Video Senshi Laserion, Ginga Nagareboshi Gin and Galaxy Angel series.
Mitsuko Horie is a Japanese singer and voice actress with a career spanning for more than four decades. She is well known for portraying “Remi” in Remi, Nobody’s Girl and “Judy Abbott” in Daddy Long Legs.
She also known for singing “Voltes V no Uta”, the opening theme song of the classic robot anime Voltes V, as well as themes from Daddy Long Legs, Saint Seiya and most recently, Sailor Moon Crystal.
The TokuSpirits concert will happen for one night on Saturday, April 8.
The Entrance fee for Ozine Fest 2017 will be at PHP300 (concert not included). Tickets for TokuSpirit concert will be at PHP350 standing, which will be sold on April 7 and 8.
Ozine Fest 2017 happens on April 7-9 at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
