After days of rumors and speculations on social media, Pan-regional anime channel ANIMAX Asia has officially announced on Wednesday that the much-awaited anime event ANIMAX Carnival Philippines will finally happen this month.

The event is scheduled to happen this May 30-31 at Hall 4 of SMX Convention Center – Manila at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, from 11:00am to 08:00pm.

Tickets will be sold exclusively through SM Tickets outlets at SM Supermall branches nationwide and online at smtickets.com, which has been priced at PHP200 per day.

The anime channel has also announced that one of the activities of the said event will be its cosplay competition, which will be divided to the solo category and group category, composed of 3-5 people per group.

Both categories are required to portray characters from anime titles shown on ANIMAX Asia, which are Naruto Shippuden, Fairy Tail, Bleach, Hunter × Hunter, Parasyte -the maxim-, Valvrave the Liberator, The Seven Deadly Sins, Space Dandy, The World God Only Knows, and upcoming titles like Mushibugyo and Wizard Barristers.

The winner of the solo category will get PHP10,000 (about USD234) plus an ANIMAX goodie bag, while the winner of the group category will get PHP20,000 (about USD448) plus an ANIMAX goodie bag.

For more details on the cosplay competition and how to participate, please visit the cosplay competition page at animax-asia.com/acph2015/cosplay.

It is currently unknown if there will be special guests invited for the upcoming event, similar to what happened to ANIMAX Carnival Malaysia 2015 last March which featured an ANIMAX LIVE! concert with performances by May’n, Mami Kawada and ELISA.

But it is expected that more information will be announced in the coming days.

ANIMAX Carnival is the anime channel’s flagship anime & cosplay event, which is being held in Malaysia, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

The first ANIMAX Carnival event was held in April 2004 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City. The channel brought Koji Sawai, director of .hack//Legend of the Twilight, which aired on the channel before.

The second installment of the event happened in 2012, which was held at the Robinson’s Place Manila. The event held the ANIMAX Ani-Mate contest, which was won by cosplayer Rhianna Floresca.

A third ANIMAX Carnival event was already scheduled for December 2013, which would feature the popular anisong artist May’n in her first Manila performance, but was cancelled “out of respect” for the victims of Super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
