Anime Pilipinas has learned that the digital terrestrial channel YEY! has aired the mystery anime Rental Magica on the channel since last weekend. It is the first time that the anime title airs in Filipino dubbing.
Due to his father’s disappearance, Itsuki Iba has to take over the family business: a magician dispatch service called “Astral”. Astral basically employ countless magicians and other supernatural beings in order to send them out to help those who need magical assistance. As a leader, Itsuki now has to be tough, commanding, and reliable, but there’s one problem: he’s a coward. Also, in order to run a successful business, he has to connect with his employees, which is more difficult than it seems due to his personality and lack of magical ability. But not only does he have to deal with his own employees, he also has to deal with those who threaten the family business. (Synopsis from Anime News Network)
Rental Magica is an anime adaptation of a Japanese light novel series by Makoto Sanda, with illustrations by Pako. The light novel is being serialized on Kadokawa Shoten magazine The Sneaker since August 2004, and currently has 24 tankubon volumes. It was voted by fans as “Best Action Story” in Japan’s Light Novel Awards in 2007.
The anime adaptation was directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, who also directed the anime adaptation of Chrome Shelled Regios, while Emma: A Victorian Romance scriptwriter Mamiko Ikeda was joined by light novel creator Sanda in it’s series composition. Minako Shiba, who handled character designs for the popular Black Butler anime, adapted pako’s character designs, which was produced by anime studio Zexcs.
Rental Magica first premiered on the Pan-regional anime channel ANIMAX Asia in March 2012, which was aired in Japanese Audio with Subtitles. ANIMAX Asia is the direct competitor of the Filipino-language anime channel HEROtv, which is the digital channel’s sister station.
Rental Magica airs Every Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 05:30pm, with an encore telecast at 09:30pm.
The digital terrestrial channel also announced that the popular religious-themed anime Superbook will have its channel premiere on January 12, but a specific premiere time has not yet been announced.
YEY! is one of the digital terrestrial sub-channel of ABS-CBN, which is currently under test broadcast, and the second animation channel of the network after HEROtv.
Previous anime titles have also aired on YEY!, like Kirarin Revolution, Sgt. Keroro, Kuroko’s Basketball and the Naruto series. The terrestrial animation channel were also the first channel air Marvel’s anime adaptations, which includes Iron Man, Wolverine and Blade.
