North American publisher Seven Seas Entertainment has announced Wednesday that they have acquired the slice-of-life comedy manga Non Non Biyori, which will be one of the titles set to be announced this week.

Non Non Biyori is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Atto, which is being serialized on Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine since September 2009. It currently has seven (7) volumes.

The story takes place in the countryside village of Asahigaoka, where many conveniences are several miles away and the school consists of only five students, each of whom come from different grades of elementary and middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and adjusts to countryside life with her new friends. (Synopsis from Wikipedia)

The rural-themed manga inspired a 12-episode anime adaptation, which was aired from October to December 2013, as well as an original video animation last July.

The second season of the anime series is currently in the works, although no further details had been announced.
