Live-action LUPIN the 3rd movie set to premiere this September

SM Cinema has announced on their Facebook page that the live-action movie adaptation of Lupin the Third is set to premiere this Wednesday, September 17.

Anime Pilipinas also learned that the upcoming movie is distributed by Telesuccess Productions, who also licensed anime series like Voltes V, Daimos, Yu Yu Hakusho (Ghost Fighter), Hunter × Hunter and several titles, as well as providing content for terrestrial network GMA Channel 07 and cable channel TeleAsia.

As previously reported, it will be an “SM CinExclusive” movie, which means it will only be screened at All SM Cinema branches nationwide.

 

The movie outlet has also released the official trailer on their YouTube account, as well as the movie poster.

 

Lupin the Third is an upcoming live-action movie adaptation of the iconic manga series by Monkey Punch, which will be directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, who also directed films like Godzilla: Final Wars (2014) and No One Lives (2013), and written by Mataichiro Yamamoto.

Lupin III and his gang will infiltrate the high security of the Ark of Navarone, a gigantic fortress-like safe, to lay claim to the Crimson Heart of Cleopatra within. It is said that whoever possesses this treasure shall “unite the world.” (Anime News Network)

The movie is set to have an original story but will be faithful to the original work, and it is also reported that Kitamura intends to update the movie into the contemporary setting.

 

Shun Oguri, who portrayed Shinichi Kudo in the 2006 and 2007 television specials of Detective Conan, will play the role of Arsène Lupin III, while Tetsuji Tamayama will play as Daisuke Jigen, Gou Ayano will play as Goemon Ishikawa XIII, Meisa Kuroki will play as Fujiko Mine, and Tadanobu Asano will play the role of Detective Koichi Zenigata.

The former Meteor Garden star and F4 member Jerry Yan will also be a part of the film as Michael Lee.
