SOLAR News Channel launches “Kids Weekend” block, Pokémon set to air

New Kids-oriented entertainment block set to launch in August.

English-language news channel SOLAR News Channel has announced on Monday that that they are set to launch a kids-oriented block this August, called “Kids Weekend”.

The news channel also posted a teaser advertisement on the video-streaming site YouTube.


The teaser includes children shows like Sesame Street, Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot, the DC Comics animated series Young Justice, and the popular Japanese anime Pokémon.

It is unknown if the channel has acquired the series outright, or it will be shared by both GMA Channel 07 and SOLAR News Channel, but it is likely that the news channel will air the series in English-language.


Pokémon is a highly-popular media franchise, which is owned & published by Japanese video game company Nintendo and created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996.

The anime series has been airing on terrestrial network GMA Channel 07 since October 1999 in its English audio, and 2013 in Filipino dubbing. Cartoon Network also airs the anime since January 2008.

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl: Galactic Battles was the latest season the terrestrial channel aired, which was in October 2013 until April of this year.
