Follows the previously announced Seven Summer 2014 titles, including Akame ga Kill.
North American anime licensor Sentai Filmworks has announced on Thursday that they have acquired the Music-themed anime Samurai Jam – Bakumatsu Rock.
This is in addition to the Seven (7) Summer 2014 anime titles announced during Anime Expo 2014 in Los Angeles, California, which includes titles like Akame ga Kill, Sabagebu! – Survival Game Club, and Argevollen.
In the Bakumatsu era, at the end of the shoguns’ rule over Japan in the middle of the 19th century: the Tokugawa shogunate uses the brainwashing Heaven’s Songs by the top idols in Shinsengumi to subjugate the country and its people. In this Japan, writing or singing any songs besides the Heaven’s Songs is a capital offence. Samurai Jam – Bakumatsu Rock is an anime series directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, who also directed Chrome Shelled Regios and Listen to me, Girls. I’m Your Father!, while Mitsutaka Hirota, who handled several episodes of Persona 4 the Animation and the 2011 adaptation of Hunter x Hunter.
The anime series is lead by Kenso Ono (Tetsuya Kuroko, Kuroko’s Basketball) as Souji Okita, Kisho Taniyama (Natsuki Shinomiya, Uta no Prince-sama series) as Ryoma Sakamoto, Showtaro Morikubo (Reiji Kotobuki, Uta no Prince-sama series) as Kogoro Katsura, Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Haru Yoshida, My Little Monster) as Shinsaku Takasugi, and Toshiyuki Morikawa (Conrad Weller, Kyo Kara Maoh! series) as Toshizo Hijikata.
Similar to the previously announced titles, Samurai Jam – Bakumatsu Rock is set to be available on digital outlets soon, and details regarding home video release will be announced in the coming days.
