Highly-popular sports anime first aired on GMA Channel 07 in 2003.


Filipino-language Asian entertainment channel TeleAsia Filipino has announced on their Facebook page on Saturday that the highly-popular sports anime will premiere on the channel this Tuesday, July 1st.

The anime is set to air Every Monday to Friday afternoons at 05:00pm, replacing Tactics.

Hajime no Ippo, better known in the Philippines by the title “Knock Out”, is a story of Ippo Makunouchi, a timid highschooler, who was one day saved from being beaten up by Mamoru Takamura, a boxer. Enthralled by Takamura’s skills Ippo begins to learn boxing, soon finding love for the sport and a drive to challenge the boxing world. (Synopsis from Anime News Network)

The anime was produced by NTV subsidiary VAP, which was directed by Satoshi Nishimura and scripts handled by Tatsuhiko Urahata.

 

In the Philippines, the first anime adaptation premiered on terrestrial network GMA Channel 07 in February 2003, while Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger was aired in March 2010.

The Filipino-language anime channel HEROtv also aired the first adaptation in August 2010.
