Free! Iwatobi Swim Club has been renewed for a second season, according to a poster placed on the anime’s talk event held yesterday in Tokyo.
The cast was reportedly surprised on the announcement of the renewal of the hit swimming anime that one of the cast members, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, who also sang the OP song “Rage On” (as part of the band OLDCODEX) turned the talk event into a mini-concert.
It is not yet clear when will be the exact date the anime will air but it is confirmed for a Summer 2014 release date.
The season finale of the show’s first season provided a possible clue about the renewal but the show’s creators, Kyoto Animation, did not give an immediate announcement after the finale, fueling speculations on the possible renewal
Meanwhile, a commotion happened during the Free! Fan Talk event as hundreds of fangirls were reportedly rushing to get character posters., but other than that, the Fan talk was held without any untoward incident.
Free! Iwatobi Swim Club is directed by Hiroko Utsumi and is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki (Haruka), Mamoru Miyano (Rin), Daisuke Hiragawa (Rei), Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Makoto) and Tsubasa Yonaga (Nagisa), It was aired on a string of stations led by Tokyo MX, BS 11 and Asahi Broadcasting Corp, while Crunchyroll streamed the anime in select territories outside Japan.
